About Us

Founded in 1986 by Karl Krasley, Sheree Krasley and Daniel Acker, the ChesMont Astronomical Society (CAS) is an astronomy club dedicated to observing the night sky and educating the public about the wonders of the universe through public outreach events, as well as assisting responsible organizations in the abatement and prevention of light pollution.  We meet each month at the Crow’s Nest Preserve in Elverson, Pennsylvania, on the Sunday night closest to the full Moon starting at 7:00 PM. Meetings are free and open to the public. Membership in the club is available to anyone interested in astronomy. For more information about CAS please use our contact us form.

Observing the night sky and all the wonderful star clusters, nebula and galaxies it holds is our passion and it drives everything the club does. Every chance we get, any time of year, we'll be at our dark sites observing the wonders of the night sky through many different telescopes. We also work with local schools, giving presentations about our Solar System, the Sun, Moon and stars and about astronomy and the universe in general. We host star parties for other non-profit organizations seeking to bring awareness to the issues of light pollution and the harmful effects it has on the environment and humans alike. We also host public star parties at local state and national parks. These events are free and everyone is invited.
